Artist Bio: Jamie Clyde is a text-based conceptual artist addressing critical issues and socio-political disparities embedded in American culture. With humor and satire, she is juxtaposing digital and painting techniques, developing a personal practice working with film transfer, digital photography, paint and poetry to critique the universal collective experience.
Jamie Clyde studied at the University of Utah. After receiving a BFA in photography, she moved to New York City to pursue her art career. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions across the country. She now works and lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Artist Statement: I have a BFA with a photography emphasis but realized several years after graduating; I disliked being a photographer. Not wanting to leave photography entirely, I picked up a paintbrush and experimented with non-traditional techniques. I adopted alternative printing processes, working with paint, text, imagery, and language. Additionally, my process vignettes with neon, large abstract canvas paintings, and poetry, conveying my inner inquiries and cognizance.
Overall, my work is a way of processing the world we create through constructive observation. I'm interested in creating thought-provoking and entertaining imagery that speaks to larger collective memories.
