Artist: Mason Rader b. 1961
Materials: Acrylic on shaped plywood
Size: 36 x 48 inches
Description: Rader was likely doing his MFA at Temple University when he painted this piece. While he went on to do a second stint at the Skowhegan School, his art career doesn't seem to have extended beyond 1999, when he had his last exhibition.
Condition: Good, vintage condition.
Provenance: Rodger LaPelle Galleries, Philadelphia
Why we bought this piece: Sometimes it's fun to have something that is completely original. When we came across a gallery full of Rader's 80's paintings on plywood, we knew we need (at least) one. As children of the 80's the aesthetic of the work just screamed 1980. From Tarzan to the bear hunting scene, there's definitely a backstory to this imaginative painting.
