Artist Bio: Ugur Karatas was born in Bitlis,Turkey in 1991. He studied painting at Dokuz Eylül University in Izmir from 2010 to 2015. At the Hochschule für Künste Bremen, he completed his Meisterschüler: innen year in the Department of Fine Arts in the class of Heike Kati Barath from 2019 to 2021. His most recent exhibitions were in Bremen, Berlin, Istanbul and Izmir.
Artist Statement: Ugur Karatas` artistic practice draws on the means of abstraction. With industrial products such as plastic bags, he creates an all-over painting that lies there like a coherent landscape. Moments of free objectlessness unfold through the picture surface, which the artist calls fractal.
